Crompton Greaves Ltd (CG), a part of Gautam Thapar-promoted Avantha
Group, has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with France-based
Arelis to manufacture and supply electronic products, as per a stock
The terms of the arrangement and whether it is a formal joint venture
was not made public.
This pact will help CG manufacture the components and sub-assemblies
for Indian and global markets. Jointly, both the firms agreed to
explore manufacturing and supply of microelectronics for high mix-mid
volume markets for aerospace and defence, energies, utilities and

Telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Monday said that e-commerce
investment in India has been rising and will stay in India. “Our
position on retail FDI is well known, that is part of our national
manifesto, and even the investors know it very well, we have come with
a massive majority,” he said adding, “However, e-commerce investment
has not gone down. On the contrary it is rising, because of over 1
billion customers, let me tell you e-commerce in India is going to
stay, it is promising very well, and I am personally monitoring it.”
Commenting on the 3-G spectrum auction he said it will take place once
there is clarity on the defence ministry vacating the 2,100 megahertz
band. He said: “The defence band is to be identified, which we have
resolved to identify in 45 days, thereafter swapping needs to take
place between the telecom band and the defence band.

Obama's Visit, Big Sales Pitch Awaits US for Make in India

Ahead of President Barack Obama's visit, the government is readying a
big sales pitch in the US for its Make in India initiative and
simultaneously holding parleys with officials in Washington to unveil
some big announcements during the trip later this month.
Department of industrial policy and promotion ( DIPP) secretary
Amitabh Kant will head the team travelling to the US for an outreach
on Make in India in Washington to drive investments in smart cities,
industrial corridors and defence manufacturing. In New Delhi, a series
of official-level talks, including video-conferences on intellectual
property rights and investment in manufacturing are planned to show
progress on key issues." The fact that the US is holding talks signals
improving ties, which will provide a big boost to the Prime Minister's
economic vision. A series of meetings is planned to fast track
discussions on various issues, including intellectual property rights,
investment in manufacturing, totalisation pact, market access for agri
products, easier visa regime etc.," a government official said.

The responsibility to ensure success of Narendra Modi's 'Make in
India' campaign is not restricted to ministers and bureaucrats. The
law minister has written to chief justices of all 24 high courts
recently to ensure speedier settlement of commercial and other
disputes for creating a conducive investment climate. "The government
has undertaken several initiatives in the recent past to improve the
investment climate in the country for the success of 'Make in India'
campaign launched by the Prime Minister...judiciary can play an
important role in this regard," says a letter written by law minister
D V Sadananda Gowda to CJs.
Gowda has expressed concern at the number of adjournments granted by
courts delaying conclusion of trials, and has suggested imposing of
costs for unwarranted adjournments. He has requested the CJs to
circulate the note attached with his letter among judges of district
and subordinate courts.

Foreign firms eye
broadband business via cable: Prasad

Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Wednesday said
foreign firms are showing interest in providing technology for
broadband through cable television network in the country.
A cable TV firm operating in Aligarh, Vrindavan, Mathura is delivering
broadband service through cable TV network with its foreign partner. A
lot of foreign players are now attracted towards this, he said.
Prasad was speaking at an event organised by Internet and Mobile
Association of India (IAMAI) here.

Indian corporate frauds arising out of corruption, money laundering,
tax evasion, window dressing, financial reporting fraud and bribery
have increased by over 45% in the last two years due to weakness in
internal controls, scarcity of resources at disposal and over-riding
powers of the senior management, according to an ASSOCHAM-Grant
Thorton study. The joint survey by ASSOCHAM and Grant Thornton
revealed that the companies related to real estate and infrastructure
sector (52%) are considered to be the most vulnerable to fraud related
incidences followed by financial services (34%), telecom (5%),
manufacturing (3%), electronics and IT/ ITeS (2%), Hospitality and

Bangalore's Electronics City MSME cluster receives Rs 120 million from
Central and State governments to design and develop electronic
products Monitoring the growing annual demand across India from the
current USD 71 billion to USD 400 billion by 2020 in the Electronics
Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector, a cluster formed by
Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) from Electronics City,
Bangalore is aiming to cater to at least USD 80 billion of this
domestic demand over the next six years.
Changes in IT 2010 Rules Gets Approval

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendments to the Kerala IT 2010
(Distribution of Electronic Services) rules thereby enabling the
public to get all possible government services electronically under
the e-district initiative.
As per the sanction accorded to the draft amendment for bringing in
changes, various government services including the minority
certificate from the Revenue Department, Right to Information
Applications in all departments, application to submit public
grievances in all departments and other e-services offered by the
government from time to time will be distributed electronically
through e-district programme.

Worldwide semiconductor revenue is forecast to reach $358 billion in
2015, a 5.4 percent increase from 2014, but down from the previous
quarter's forecast of 5.8 percent growth, according to Gartner, Inc.
The market is being driven by strong growth in application-specific
standard products (ASSPs) in smartphones, along with DRAM and NAND
flash in ultramobiles and solid-state drives (SSDs).
