IESA: Electronics Sector to Get Rs. 5,000 Crore Investments

The industry body Indian Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) has predicted that the electronics sector in the country will get Rs5,000 crore investments over the next three years. The boom in sales of electronics goods in India has spurred interest in foreign firms to set up manufacturing units in the country to cater to the world's second most populous market.

Goa may invite Samsung to set up electronic manufacturing cluster: Parrikar

Goa could invite Samsung or other global electronic manufacturing giants to set up a manufacturing cluster in the state and 200,000 square metres of land would be allocated to facilitate this, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said.

Parrikar was speaking to reporters for the first time after his return from Delhi, where he met Union Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and briefed him about Goa’s willingness to set up the electronic manufacturing cluster.

TIA submits input to DeitY on the Internet of Things policy draft

The Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) has submitted its input to the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DeitY) in response to its request for stakeholder views on the Draft Internet of Things (IoT) Policy. The suggestions for DeitY are as follows INTERNET OF THINGS IN GENERAL In 2012, an estimated 8.7 billion things were connected worldwide and projections show that with the new technological capabilities this could grow to 50 billion by the year 2020, generating global revenues of $8.9 trillion by 2020. TIA projects the IoT will provide significant impacts across service sectors, representing an emerging market that is both unique and enormous.

CCI Approves Fujitsu, Panasonic, Development Bank of Japan JV for Logic IC

The Competition Commission of India has given a nod to the JV between three Japanese firms including Fujitsu, Panasonic and Development Bank of Japan.

The JV entity would engage itself in large-scale integration design and development of certain logic integrated circuit products in the country. Fujitsu’s subsidiary would provide the JV with the requisite assets for the business.

Smartphone mkt in India: Samsung leads over Micromax

Samsung Electronics expanded its lead over Micromax in India's smartphone market in September, while Nokia retained its third spot, significantly ahead of Lava and Karbonn, data from research firm Gfk showed.

Gfk data for July, August and September showed South Korea's Samsung had achieved a 33% market share at the end of the period after gaining over a percentage point from August. Home-bred Micromax came in second with more than 18% share, adding a tad over the previous month, while Finnish handset maker Nokia, now owned by Microsoft, managed to keep itself going at No 3 with 12% share. ET has reviewed the research firm's data.

17 Indian firms invited to join league of 'Global Growth Companies'

Seventeen "fastest growing" Indian companies, including Avesthagen and Flipkart, have been invited to join the World Economic Forum Global Growth Companies (GGCs) community comprising 370 firms.

The selected companies are: 4G Identity Solutions, ANI Technologies, Avesthagen, Bandhan Financial Services, Centum Electronics, Finolex, Flipkart, Forbes Marshall, InterGlobe Enterprises, Justdial, MakeMyTrip, Nash Industries, Persistent Systems, Radikal Foods, RBL Bank, Sobha, and Transasia Bio-Medicals.

Danfoss sets up Rs 500 crore Greenfield plant near Chennai

Mechanical and electronic components maker Danfoss Industries has set up its manufacturing, research and development unit near Chennai at an investment of Rs 500 crore.

"Danfoss India launches Rs 500 crore manufacturing facility in Oragadam, Chennai. The subsidiary of Danfoss Global, has inaugurated its new manufacturing, research and development and administrative campus in Oragadam.", a company statement said.

Govt plans Rs 10,000cr fund to create tech giants

The journey of tech behemoths like Google, Apple and Facebook — from startups to global giants — has caught the fancy of the Indian government, which is planning a Rs 10,000-crore electronics development fund to support ambitious startups in attaining scale.

The government feels that India needs to incubate tech giants from its soil — like those emanating from the West —as the country has a fast-growing mass of internet users and possesses a rich list of highly-skilled techies. The basic groundwork for kick-starting the initiative has been completed.

Government Plans to Tweak Taxes to Encourage Electronic Units Set-Up In India

As part of governments “Make in India” campaign, the government is planning to revise the duty structure in India to force the manufacturers to shift their base to India.

In order to encourage the electronic units to set up shops in the country, the Government has planned to squeeze the tax structure and develop a new incentive scheme. As a part of the government’s ‘Make in India’ campaign, management is looking forward to implement few changes into the duty structure and to bring a revised incentive scheme for investment in electronics hardware before the Cabinet.

Keysight Technologies signs MoU with IEEE India

Keysight Technologies, Inc. announced that a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with IEEE India to develop tools, programs and activities to help increase technical engineering capabilities In India. Their mutual interest is focused on workforce development, technical advocacy, and creating technical communities to assist the industry at-large.

The work will include private and government sector involvement to setup technical labs with state-of-the-art equipment, hosting seminars and creating certification programs to benefit engineering students across India. Among the various programs offered will be the IEEE Labs Initiative and Wireless Certification and Electronic Test Program.

Intel Capital puts $62 million in 16 companies; to invest $355 million in 2014

Intel Capital, the investment arm of chip maker Intel, today said it has invested about $62 million in 16 technology companies working in areas like wearables, data analytics and Internet of Things (IoT).

Intel Capital invests in the technology continuum and everything in between, including silicon, smart devices, PCs, the cloud and data centres, Intel Capital President and Intel Executive Vice President Arvind Sodhani said.

Bosch's long tryst with India

It’s been more than a month since labour unrest began at the company’s Bengaluru factory. On 30 October, in a filing to stock exchanges, Bosch said that losses due to stoppage of work at its plant would be around 2% of the turnover. That’s about Rs.176 crore. As things stand today, the union and the workmen have filed a writ petition in Karnataka high court, challenging the state government’s 10 October order which prohibited the strike, deeming it illegal.

Cebit India Roadshow Promotes Software Industry

CeBIT India, the international IT/ICT event organised by Hannover Milano Fairs India Pvt Ltd (HMFI), the Indian subsidiary of the Global JV Company HMG (Hannover Milano Global), hosted the CeBIT India roadshow in Kochi, in association with STPI (Software Technology Parks of India), an autonomous society under Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, with a focus on promoting the software industry in the country.

The CeBIT India Roadshow was attended by more than 50 STPI members. As a part of the recently announced CeBIT India - STPI partnership, 100 STPI members will get an opportunity to showcase themselves in the STPI pavillion, at the premier international platform of CeBIT India, scheduled to be held in Bangalore from November 12 to November 14, 2014.
