TN allocates Rs. 100 crore to improve IT infrastructure

To bring in an improvement in public administration, Tamil Nadu's Chief Minister, J Jayalalitha has declared that the Tamil Nadu Government will provide Rs. 100 crore to Electronics Corporation of Tamil Nadu.
This initiative is aimed at improving IT infrastructure in the government departments. Besides that, the state government is planning to set up an ‘e-governance fund' and establish an IT cadre to improve the delivery of various government services.

Chip-maker Qualcomm betting big on tablet market

After making a strong impact in the smartphone segment, chip maker Qualcomm is now placing big bets on the tablet market, investing heavily in research and development (R&D) activities.
"We are investing heavily into tablet PCs, smart TVs and we expect a significant pipeline of devices in the next few months. The tab market will be significant for us," Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Anand Chandrasekher told PTI.

30 billion wireless devices connected to IoT by 2020, finds ABI

ABI Research finds there are more than 10 billion wirelessly connected devices in the market today; with over 30 billion devices expected by 2020.

"The emergence of standardized ultra-low power wireless technologies is one of the main enablers of the IoE, with semiconductor vendors and standards bodies at the forefront of the market push, helping to bring the IoE into reality," said Peter Cooney, practice director. "The year 2013 is seen by many as the year of the Internet of Everything, but it will still be many years until it reaches its full potential. The next 5 years will be pivotal in its growth and establishment as a tangible concept to the consumer.”

TI tops industrial semiconductor market and ST jumps to 2nd position

IHS says the Top 10 vendors of semiconductor devices for industrial market accounted for revenue amounting to $12.19 billion, or 40.4 percent of the overall industrial electronics semiconductor space valued at $30.15 billion. IHS ranks Texas Instruments at the top, which managed to stay on top despite deteriorated revenue. The revenue also fell for the remaining top 8. Only two entities within the circle enjoyed revenue increases, as the markets they supplied were growth areas within the broader industry, according to IHS.

Global Semiconductor sales outpace last year through first quarter of 2013

The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA), representing U.S. leadership in semiconductor manufacturing and design, today announced that worldwide sales of semiconductors reached $23.48 billion for the month of March 2013, an increase of 1.1 percent from the previous month when sales were $23.23 billion. Global sales for March 2013 were 0.9 percent higher than the March 2012 total of $23.28 billion, and total sales through the first quarter of 2013 were 0.9 percent higher than sales from the first quarter of 2012. All monthly sales numbers represent a three-month moving average.

India to deploy Rs.17,500 crore to boost telecom products

India has proposed to set up three funds with a combined corpus of Rs.17,500 crore to boost local research and manufacturing of telecom products as it seeks to cut dependence on imports at a time when the current-account deficit has widened to a record and also to reduce security concerns posed by such imports, particularly from China.
