The India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA) has announced the appointment of Sanjeev Keskar as its new chairman. Keskar is managing director sales, India & SEA, PMC-Sierra.He replaces Satya Gupta, who would continue on the Executive Council in his capacity as advisor.

In 2012, the global semiconductor revenue fell 2.6 per cent from 2011 to reach Rs.16.12 lakh crore ($299.9 billion). With the overall market decline, the number of vendors that declined among the top 25 outnumbered those that grew, said market research firm Gartner Inc.

Total worldwide semiconductor revenue has reached $300 billion in 2012, down 2.6 per cent from 2011, said a recent Gartner report. The top 25 semiconductor vendors' revenue declined slightly faster, at 2.8 per cent, than the industry as a whole and accounted for almost the same portion of the industry's total revenue — 68.9 per cent in 2012, compared with 69.0 per cent in 2011.

Europe was the only region in the world to report semi sales growth between January and February.
European semiconductor sales were up 1.4% in February compared to January, says WSTS.

Overall, European semiconductor sales in February 2013 amounted to US$ 2.681 billion. On a year-to-date basis semiconductor sales increased by 2.0% versus the same period in the year 2012.

Avago Technologies Limited, a provider of analogue semiconductor devices, has announced an agreement to buy a privately-held company CyOptics Inc. for Rs.2,150.54 crore ($400 million).

Founded in 1999, CyOptics develops Indium Phosphide optical chips and components for the data communications and telecommunications markets. Its' products enable applications primarily in the fibre-to-the-home, enterprise/data centre and long haul/metro segments of the communications network. The company's revenue has more than tripled over the past three years, with net sales in 2012 reaching Rs.1,129.03 crore ($210 million), up 21 per cent from 2011.
