Sasken inks design partnership with SMSC

Embedded technologies firm Sasken Communications has partnered with SMSC, a semiconductor company, for JukeBlox wireless audio streaming. Sasken was working closely with SMSC to help customers design-in SMSC's JukeBlox wireless audio hardware and software capabilities.

Gartner expects 4 per cent increase in worldwide semiconductor revenue, totalling to Rs.15.64 lakh crore ($316 billion) in 2012. "The semiconductor industry is poised for a rebound starting in the second quarter of 2012," said Bryan Lewis, research vice president, Gartner.

Chinese fabless firm invests Rs 50 crore in Micromax

China-based fabless semiconductor provider Spreadtrum Communications will invest Rs.49.50 crore ($10 million) in India's third largest handset manufacturer Micromax. Following the investment, Spreadtrum will become one of Micromax's preferred mobile chipset suppliers.

India second to none in battlefield technology research

Germany based organic solar innovation company Heliatek GmbH has opened production facility for the manufacturing of organic solar films. To manufacture flexible organic solar PV panels Heliatek has invested €14 million in the construction of its first production line.

Media tablets in 2014 will become the fourth largest application for semiconductors, up from 35th in 2010. Apple iPad will be fuelling this significant growth. Sales of semiconductors for use in media tablets will increase to $18.2 billion in 2014, up from $2.6 billion in 2010.
