The India Semiconductor Association (ISA), unveiled their new charter at the inauguration of the 8th IESA Vision Summit 2013. The new charter will represent a broader spectrum to include not just semiconductor companies but the larger ecosystem of companies and organizations involved in the design and manufacture of electronics products. In tandem with the new charter, the organization will now be known as the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

Karnataka chief minister Jagadish Shettar on Friday announced several measures to give boost to the Information Technology (IT) industry in the state. The measures are aimed at increasing the level of IT exports by three times to Rs 4 lakh crore and more than double the level of employment in the sector to 2 million jobs by 2020. During the year 2013-14, a grant of Rs 194 crore is provided for information technology, biotechnology and science and technology department.

Cadence buys city-based Cosmic Circuits

Cosmic Circuits, the Bangalore-based provider of semiconductor IPs (intellectual property), has been acquired by Cadence Design Systems, the US company that provides software tools to design integrated circuits and printed circuit boards.

The value of the deal was not disclosed. Cosmic was founded in 2005 by Ganapathy Subramaniam, who had previously worked in semiconductor major Texas Instruments for 16 years.

The Karnataka Economic Survey report published earlier this month, pegs the state to grow at the rate of 5.9 percent for the current fiscal year as compared to last year’s 6.4 percent. The report said that the state’s IT slowdown is dragging the state down.

“Karnataka has pro-actively taken up with Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DIETy), Government of India (GoI), for the notification of brownfield and greenfield electronics manufacturing clusters in the state, and has committed to create and strengthen the support infrastructure for growth of the ESDM industry,” said PVG Menon, President, India Semiconductors Association.

The Karnataka government Friday announced a slew of pro-active measures to propel the growth of the resilient IT industry in the state.

Presenting the state budget for ensuing fiscal 2013-14 in the legislative assembly, Chief Minster Jagadish Shettar told lawmakers that the government would spend Rs.100 crore to implement the proposed Electronics Systems Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) policy to give filling to the hardware sector and create job opportunities for the youth.
