Extends MEMS Sensor Portfolio

STMicroelectronics, a global semiconductor leader serving customers
across the spectrum of electronics applications and the world’s top
MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) manufacturer has unveiled its
smallest, lowest-power and highest-performance chip-scale gyroscope
for advanced motion-sensing applications.

Samsung is planning to launch its own server chips based on the ARM
architecture. According to a report by the Seoul Economic Daily, the
South Korea-based company intends to come out with a low-power,
multi-core ARM chips for micro-servers sometime in 2014. Moreover, the
company will launch high-performance multi-core ARM chips for Windows
8 later this year.
HCL to manage UIDAI’s

Hardware firm HCL Infosystems Ltd. will manage the Central ID
Repository (CIDR) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI),
the authority that implements the Aadhaar project. The UIDAI inked a
pact awarding HCL a contract for seven years.
Indian Govt. selects
Tower Semiconductors to run 30-mm wafer fab

Government has shortlisted Tower Semiconductors to build and run a
300-mm wafer fab in the country. Tower had previously announced that
it was part of consortium headed up by cement maker Jaypee Associates
and that included IBM that was bidding to be allowed to build fab,
reports Peter Clarke of EETimes.
