Vision Summit 2006, held in February 8 & 9, 2006 in Bangalore was a hugely successful event spearheaded the growth of a semiconductor ecosystem in the country. The theme of the summit was ‘The Triple Play of Design, Software and Manufacturing - India leads the way for a new paradigm in semiconductors’.

Presentations by industry experts such as Aurangzeb Khan - Corporate Vice President, Cadence Design Systems Inc; Dr. Biswadip Mitra - Managing Director, Texas Instruments (India) Pvt. Ltd.; Rajeev Madhavan - Chairman & CEO, Magma Design Automation Inc.; Ted Vucurevich - Sr. VP, CTO, Cadence Design Systems; Ulf Schneider - Managing Director, Infineon Technologies (India) Pvt. Ltd. and a host of others, highlighted the opportunities that await India in the global semiconductor landscape.

Delegates from countries such as Taiwan, Singapore and China shared case studies and explored opportunities of collaboration with India. These delegates included David Keynan – Head, I2I Ventures, Israel; Damian Chan - Head Electronics, EDB Singapore; Shirley Sun - Director Sales, SMIC, People's Republic of China and Sajiv Dalal - Director Business Management, TSMC Inc.

Vision Summit 2006 clearly established the significance of chip manufacturing in India to complete the semiconductor ecosystem. The focus on interdependence of the three processes - design, software and manufacturing brought to light the perceived need for a fundamental shift in business models, technology directions and collaborative strategies in the semiconductor space.

Vision Summit 2006 provided a platform for the exchange of ideas from key stake holders and global visionaries of the semiconductor industry. There was representation from the IDM, fabless, EDA and manufacturing segments as well as investors and the user community. The event offered a unique vision of the future where triple play paradigm offers unprecedented economic opportunity and growth potential.
