Prem Kumar Kalra

Prof. Prem Kumar Kalra joined as the Director of the Indian Institute of Technology, Rajasthan in 2009. He is spearheading the development of an integrated green campus in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. The campus has a target of zero net energy, net water, and net waste. Also on the cards is the setting up of three centers of excellence in the areas of ICT in health, energy, and water.

Prof. Kalra has made significant contributions in the field of neural networks. He has been involved in several nation-level and state-level initiatives. He is the coordinator of the National Mission of Education through ICT under the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. He has led efforts in the areas of RFID, multi-media, robotics, and health monitoring of rotating machines by attracting around Rs. 40 crore of research funding and setting up research laboratories in the electrical and electronics department. He has helped build an international online students’ outreach program, designed pricing models for state electricity companies, and developed a prototype for land records and testing for the state of Chattisgarh’s e-governance application.

Prof. Kalra holds a BSc in engineering from Dayalbagh Educational Institute, MTech from IIT Kanpur, and PhD from the University of Manitoba, Canada.
