Brief Profile

Juzer M. Vasi obtained his B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1969 and the Ph.D. from The Johns Hopkins University in 1973. He taught at The Johns Hopkins University and the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, before moving to the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay in 1981, where he is currently a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Deputy Director.

He was an early visionary of the need to pursue teaching and research in microelectronics, and initiated this area at IIT Bombay in 1983, emphasizing group activity. He was the founding co-ordinator of the Microelectronics Project at IIT Bombay between 1983-1992, and played an important role in the establishment of the Centre for Excellence in Nanoelectronics at IIT Bombay in 2006.

Prof. Vasi's personal research interests are in the area of CMOS devices, technology and design. He has worked on MOS insulators, radiation effects in MOS devices, degradation and reliability of MOS devices, modeling and simulation of MOS devices, and MOS memories. He has published and presented over 120 papers in these areas.

Prof. Vasi has interacted widely with industries in India and abroad on collaborative sponsored projects. Prof. Vasi was Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices for MOS Devices and Technology from 1996 to 2003, and a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Electron Devices Society from 2001 to 2005. He is a recipient of IIT Bombay’s Excellence in Teaching award as well as the Mathur Award for Excellence in Research. He is a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee to the Cabinet (SAC-C). He is a Fellow of IEEE, a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and a Fellow of IETE .

Brief Profile

Bhargab B. Bhattacharya ( www.isical.ac.in/~bhargab) has been on the faculty of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) Calcutta since 1982, where currently he is full Professor and Deputy Director. He held visiting professorship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, USA and at the University of Potsdam, Germany. In the year 2005, he had been with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, as VSNL Chair Professor. His research interest includes design and testing of integrated circuits, CAD tools, computational nanoscience, digital geometry, and image processing architecture. He has supervised over 80 Masters and 12 Doctoral students in these areas.

Prof. Bhattacharya has published more than 200 technical articles in archival journals and in edited books and peer-reviewed conference proceedings. He holds 9 United States Patents in the area of on-chip image processing and biometrics.

He had international research collaboration with several universities and industry, including Duke University, NC, USA, Intel Corporation, IRISA, France, Motorola, etc. He is also a co-PI of the Center for Soft Computing Research: A National Facility, at ISI. He is a Fellow of the IEEE, a Fellow of FNAE, Fellow of FNASc, and a co-recipient of the 1999 VASVIK Award for Electronic Sciences and Technology.
